We just received an email in the community mailbox, announcing phase three of the AASPIRE Healthcare Tooklit project. The purpose of the project is to develop a toolkit that autistics can use, with the cooperation of our healthcare providers, to facilitate communication across the neurotype divide and thus make doctor visits less harrowing. I am a border-line aspie.  I have 2 kids with aspergers and although not diagnosed as such, I have quite a few aspie traits.  They sometimes get me in trouble.  Days like today.

My 10 year old is working with his therapist on making "maintaining comments" every time someone introduces a conversation topic.  These are as simple as "um hm,  oh yeah, really, man, bummer, awesome, cool, etc".  He is having an incredible amount of trouble with it to the point where he has baffled his therapist.   And of course, if you tell him ( Read more... )

I enjoyed learning about this thing called "Cassandra Phenomenon" this weekend.  I read with great interest the story posted here and also the other webpages that I found through Google.
